What happens when we pray?

We are being obedient and participating in the work of the Lord.

“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.” - 1 Timothy 2:1-4

By bringing petitions of prayer on behalf of others, we imitate our Savior.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 4:6-7

We share the burdens of others.

“Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.” - Philippians 2:3-4

We learn to put our trust in Jesus

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” - Matthew 7:7

It changes who we are

“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.” - Ephesians 1:18-23

We glorify God

“And whatever you ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” - John 14:13

We can have confidence that God answers.

“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.” - 1 John 5:14-15

CORPORATE PRAYER

Corporate prayer is simply praying as one. When we gather together and combine our prayers as one body of Christ the results are powerful.

Jesus said “For where two or three gather in my name,
there am I with them” - Matthew 18:20

PRIVATE PRAYER

Getting away from the loudness of the world to have private time with the Lord is extremely important. Without it, our spiritual life will suffer, becoming difficult for us to live for the Lord and overcome temptation. Having personal time with Jesus is invaluable. We must make time to confess our sins to Him, read His Word, and fellowship intimately with Him. We can enjoy the Lord’s sweet presence as we fellowship with Him daily.

“But you, when you pray, enter into your private room, and shut your door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will repay you.” - Matthew 6:6

Throughout His life on earth, Jesus seized the opportunity to be alone with the Father, praying in secret. Matthew 14:23 says: “And after He sent the crowds away, He went up to the mountain privately to pray. And when night fell, He was there alone.”

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

How do I pray?

Personal Worship (Psalm 96)

Spend some time in personal worship. Our worship team has put together this playlist of familiar worship songs to help you engage in this time. Prepare your heart for your time of prayer.

Praise and Thanksgiving (Psalm 111)

Pray a prayer of praise. Praise God for who He is. Something like: Father, I praise You because you are holy, mighty, powerful. You are worthy of all glory and honor!

Transition into a prayer of thanksgiving. Praise God for what He’s done. How has God been faithful to you and your family this year? Challenge yourself to be specific, expressing gratitude for His acts of kindness and faithfulness to you. Something like: Father, thank You for your grace and mercy. Thank You for Your kindness and generosity toward me and my family.

Confession and Repentance (Psalm 139:23-24)

Spend some time asking the Holy Spirit to search your heart and reveal any areas of sin or disobedience in your life. As the Lord reveals those areas, confess and repent. Take your time. Allow time for the Holy Spirit to speak to your heart. Don’t rush. Listen for His voice. Once you have confessed and repented, give thanks for the forgiveness and cleansing we have in Jesus!

Revival and the Filling of the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:5-11)

Once you have confessed and repented, pray for a fresh filling of the Spirit in your life and for personal revival. Ask that God would renew and restore your perspectives, and give you a recognition of dependence on Him. After praying for personal revival, expand that prayer to your family and friends, and then to New Beginnings. Ask that God would reinvigorate our Church's passion for Him.

Intercession
As a body we've been praying for a number of breakthroughs. Join us in praying specifically for:


• A fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit in our church
• Re-engagement of families who are disconnected
• Financial provision to expand our mission
• Revival and spiritual awakening in our church, community, state and nation
• A desire for the manifestation of the Spirit during all of our services
• That we would become a house of prayer
• Healing for the sick and hurting in our church.
